Amazing what you can do with a red pencil in the moments between songs during rehearsal. Some sketches are based on folks I see around me, most are spill over from studies earlier in the day.

Audrey on the iPad

Remembering Audrey Hepburn on her birthday this May 4th, I dedicated a quick 20 minute character sketch study to her memory. This is more or less the first study that I've completed on the new iPad. Sketching on this new little device will take some getting used to, but it should allow me to practice anywhere I like in a digital medium. My pogo stylus works pretty well. It would be nice if I had something that was pressure sensitive and something that had more of a point to it, but it'll do. The stylus is much better than trying to finger paint on the thing.

Coloring Book

This coloring book will be for kids that end up spending time as patients at McKay Dee hospital. The book celebrates a 100 year anniversary for the hospital. The front and back covers are designed to allow a child to hold up their book in front of them and picture themselves as a healthcare professional.

Character studies 2009

This post has been almost a year in the making. The sketches shown are a sampling of quick daily character studies I've done in 2009. I've much enjoyed the daily effort of drawing someone's likeness and find now that I frequently analyze the facial features of those who cross my path. Red pencil sketches are all studies done without reference material and 12-24 hours after having done an initial study on a person's likeness. I have become fascinated with the mind and how it is able to remember features, shapes and form.
